Outdoor Pickleball Courts at Range Line

Pickleball has long been one of the Mequon-Thiensville Recreation Department's most popular adult programs and has recently experienced huge growth nationwide. As participation in the sport began increasing in 2020, the Recreation Department began to earmark monies in its fund balance, or reserves, to eventually contribute toward outdoor pickleball courts at Range Line Community Center. These courts will provide a place for recreation, exercise, and social engagement for people of all ages. Further, this opportunity provides an inaugural opportunity for MTSD to leverage community fundraising efforts in support of athletic facility improvements without increasing property taxes.

Donations to the outdoor pickleball court project can be made directly to the Mequon-Thiensville School District (MTSD) or to the Mequon-Thiensville Community Foundation (MTCF). We recommend that donations under $1,000 be made online to the MTCF. Larger dollar sponsorships can be made to MTSD by completing a sponsorship application form and submitting payment directly to the district.

Yes! We welcome corporate and business sponsorships from organizations that align with the criteria outlined in Board Policy 9750. This is a great opportunity to gain community visibility while supporting a valuable recreational resource.

All sponsorship agreements shall have a defined duration per the Mequon-Thiensville School District Board of Education policy. For this sponsorship package, all agreements are limited to a 10-year term.

Every dollar raised will go toward making these courts a reality. If we fall short of our goal, groundbreaking will be delayed until we have enough funds to move forward with the full scope of the project.

Once we reach our fundraising goal, we will begin construction as soon as possible. Once scheduled, the estimated timeline for completion is 2 to 3 months, pending weather and other logistical factors.

As with any other District facilities projects, MTSD’s buildings and grounds department will incorporate maintenance and upkeep of the outdoor courts into its long-term facilities maintenance plan.   

The Mequon-Thiensville Recreation Department will manage the usage of the courts. Rules and regulations for play will be on a first-come-first-served basis, in alignment with the guidelines for outdoor pickleball play on the tennis courts at Homestead High School.

Yes. Court usage will be supervised by the Mequon-Thiensville Recreation Department and will operate just like any other daytime recreation programming that occurs during the school day at Range Line Community Center.

The playground currently located on the site of the outdoor pickleball courts is not designated for use by any MTSD-affiliated school. However, we recognize that it does provide value to families using the space behind Range Line Community Center. Thus, if funds are raised in excess of the specific outdoor pickleball court goal, we will consider the ability to move the playground to an adjacent location nearby. If you have an interest in sponsorship for a new playground, please contact the District’s Executive Director of Business Services.

No, preliminary plans for outdoor court construction do not include lighting. The courts will be available during daylight hours only.

At this time, the Recreation Department plans to fund temporary outdoor bathrooms on location. During business hours, patrons will be able to access restrooms indoors at the Range Line Community Center.

Yes. There is a parking lot located behind Range Line Community Center and adjacent to the future location of the outdoor pickleball courts. Patrons will need to park away from the Lake Shore bus lane that runs through the parking lot.
