About MTSD

Two young girls focus on a book together at a table in a classroom. From the day a child is born, the countdown begins. We have a short time to do the critically important job of preparing each child to take on the world. It is the reason the Mequon-Thiensville School District exists—to launch our children to a promising future.

The Mequon‑Thiensville School District (MTSD) has earned its place among Wisconsin’s top public school systems, consistently earning a “Significantly Exceeds Expectations” rating on the state report card for each year that the report card has been produced. It serves more than 3,550 students across six schools, offering rigorous academics, strong athletics, enriching fine and performing arts programs, and a wide range of co-curricular opportunities that ignite a love of learning and prepare young people for lives of possibility.

  • Together, we ignite each student’s passion for learning, preparing for a life of infinite possibilities.

  • Each student, every time, empowered to succeed.

  • Our guiding principles delineate the core values and beliefs that set the foundation for how an organization will operate. In the Mequon-Thiensville School District, we believe:

    • Each student is valued, will learn and will experience success.
    • Education must address every facet of a child’s being.
    • Staff is our most valuable asset in achieving our mission and vision.
    • Respect, responsibility, fairness, citizenship, equity, diversity and inclusion are essential for a safe and successful learning environment.
    • Seeking innovation and working to constantly improve all practices increases the value of our organization for all stakeholders.
    • Research, assessment and measurement must inform decision-making and accountability.
    • Sustaining fiscal strength is necessary for the vitality of our schools and community.
    • Engaging our community through meaningful relationships fosters trust and accountability.

Why MTSD?

Two boys collaborate on a STEM project, building with straws and connectors at a classroom table.MTSD’s success is more than student achievement—it’s a cornerstone of our Mequon-Thiensville community. High-quality schools help attract families, support strong local property values, enhance civic engagement, and create a vibrant environment where students, families, and neighbors connect. When students thrive, the whole community benefits.

MTSD offers fine and performing arts, STEM programs, world languages, athletics (28 sports offered at the high school level), a full 4K program with wrap-around care, one-to-one Chromebook devices for Grades 4-12, and 25 Advanced Placement courses. These rich offerings are delivered by passionate, high-quality educators who build meaningful relationships with students, understand what drives them to succeed, and inspire confidence and independence.

The district also strengthens community connections and workforce readiness through its Academic & Career Planning (ACP) program, which pairs students with local businesses, mentors, and apprenticeships that connect learning to real-world pathways. The Mequon‑Thiensville Recreation Department, run by MTSD, further bridges the school and community through year-round programming, including before- and after-school care, summer enrichment, and recreational opportunities for all ages.

  • As students move through their 4K-12 academic careers, they strive for and reach a number of key milestones. We have identified seven milestones that benchmark our efforts to ensure that all students will experience college and future career success. Our Milestones for Post-Secondary Success include measurable outcomes that allow us to monitor student progress in preparing for post-secondary success. Our goal is that when students graduate from high school, they have the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in post-secondary education. Each milestone is rigorous, encouraging our students to develop higher-level thinking and problem-solving skills.
